Sanctuary Park Dedication at Old City Hall.

Old City Hall on Mattie Street is the location of the City's newest park: Sanctuary Park. The Denham Springs Main Street Commission hosted a dedication of the park on April 6.

The park began as a Main Street project but soon evolved into a City-wide effort as businesses and other organizations contributed. Lush flowerbeds were designed by Danny Clement. Meandering flagstone pavers lead from area to area. The park is surrounded by a wrought iron fence and lighted by replica streetlights.

The dedication ceremony included installation
of the park dedication poem "My Outdoor Sanctuary" written by Helen Wale Turner:

Within this little park, tranquility reigns.
From a bench, I watch as
butterflies flit about and pause
to choose their next drink of
nectar.
The damp grass shimmers
in dappled sunshine while
songbirds warble in the tall
oak’s treetop.
The cool breath of spring
stirs the leaves and refreshes
my weary soul.
I cherish this peace and
quiet, interrupted only by a
bird’s splashing bath.
I linger for as long as I can
at this oasis in the midst of city
bustle.
Reluctantly I leave, but will
return eagerly and often to this
outdoor retreat, this sanctuary.

Following the dedication ceremony, attendees enjoyed refreshments in the park. The public is invited to visit Old City Hall and Sanctuary Park.

Kidz Korner Grand Opening .

The Pilot Club Foundation and the City of Denham Springs held a grand opening celebration on Saturday, March 19 for the new Kidz Korner Playland.

Kidz Korner is one of only four handicapped children's parks in Louisiana. The park was designed and built to be totally accessible for children with special needs.

The City hopes that this unique oasis, through the spirit of inclusion, will allow children of all abilities to play, learn and share experiences together. The long-awaited park was a project of the Denham Springs Pilot Club Foundation, which formed a cooperative endeavor with the City of Denham Springs to build the project.

The Pilot Club thanks the many generous donors and volunteers who have shared in making this dream come true for our children. Kidz Korner Playland could not have become a reality without the generosity of local businesses and individuals who became partners in this project, as well as the endless hours of work performed by Pilot Club members and their families, local residents, school and religious groups and civic organizations.
